Dr. David Dao, the physician beaten and dragged off United Airlines Flight UA3411 by United security staff was seriously injured, requiring surgery. He lost two teeth and suffered a broken nose, and has a sinus injury that will require surgery to correct.
Dao is not Chinese as first reported, but originally from Vietnam. He left Vietnam during the fall of Saigon in 1975, coming to America to build a better life.
He has since hired a high profile Chicago attorney Thomas A. Demetrio who specializes in cases of this nature. United and the Chicago airport authority are in deep deep shit.
Demetrio added that Dao described the United encounter as being worse than leaving Vietnam on a boat in 1975 during the fall of Saigon. Dao said that being dragged down the aisle was more horrifying and harrowing than what he experienced in leaving Vietnam.
The officers that attacked Dr. Dao were not police officers. They were Security Guards hired by O'hare Airport Authority, and were ordered not wear jackets that said Police on the back. Obviously they did not comply with their orders.
Thinking about this situation we believe Dr. Dao was stereotyped because of how he was dressed, and being of Asian decent.
Wearing sweat pants and sweat shirt, he certainly did not look like a Doctor, or any other educated person, to the security staff that beat and dragged him off the plane.
The old saying "never judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind!
This is a serious mess.. A jury could award Dao Billions in damages. United Airlines better hope this matter can be settled out of court.
Folks worldwide watched "and listened" to Dao's screams as he was manhandled out of his seat, slamming his face forcefully into the adjacent seat's arm rest, knocking two teeth out of his mouth, breaking his nose, and causing another injury that will require surgery to repair.
United Airlines is literally screwed! It's going to cost CEO Oscar Munoz big big bucks to settle this mess. A minimum Billion sounds appropriate.!
