A hacked cyberbullying video featuring Parkland school shooting survivor David Hogg wound up trending on YouTube today. The offensive video was from CBS News interview with Hogg in 2017 and altered to label him a Crisis Actor.
Once again YouTube has egg on their face. The video hosting site owned by Google is an unregulated playpen for both children and adults. Offensive videos can be flagged and flagged but are never removed. Is YT staff overwhelmed with complaints? 😡
Apparently this hacked video (modified from it’s original content) had no business on YouTube to begin with. The video was offensive and violated YouTube policy on bullying. Not only was it offensive, it was copyright CBS news. It slid right past the vlogging websites filters and was live within minutes. When offended YouTube viewers flagged (reported) the offensive video to YouTube support they did nothing.
YouTube is an unregulated playground for spammers and reputation management companies creating rogue channels to upload cyberstalking cyberbullying videos. There is no verification on channels that have videos less than 15 minutes long. The video hosting site owned by Google is as wild as Americas wild west days.
YouTube finally removed the bullying video after it received around 216,000 views. Apparently someone knew someone at Google corporate who had a connection at YT to remove the video bullying David Hogg. Had that person not reached out to Google that disgusting video would probably still be live on the site.
The video regurgitates a Californian news broadcast from summer 2017 which shows Hogg describing how a friend of his got into an argument with a lifeguard on the beach. A keen student journalist, Hogg, who was 16 at the time, said he started filming when his friend and the lifeguard got into an altercation.
Hogg initially shared the video on his own YouTube channel where it gathered hundreds of views and attracted the attention of a local CBS channel which then filmed a segment on the fight.
But because it was taken six months before the shooting at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and was filmed in a different state, conspiracy theorists decided it was proof Hogg is a paid crisis actor who has been hired to speak around the country.
